Beauty Boost: What’s in My Makeup Bag This Month
Burt’s Bees’ beeswax and banana hand cream brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “don’t bite the hand that feeds you”. It smells so damn delicious that it’s hard not to nibble on your fingertips after applying it. And if you don’t like bananas, the cream also comes in an Almond Milk fragrance, which smells exactly like a Bakewell tart. Unsurprisingly they were my favourite beauty discoveries, last month. But they’re not the only newbies settling in to my makeup bag right now…
I’ve just started using Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder foundation, which is very similar to Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua. I wear the shade ’3 fair’, which is ever-so-slightly warmer than my usual base makeup, making it perfect for days when I’ve applied fake tan. Benefit Hoola bronzing powder has also been giving me a subtle summer glow. Shockingly I’d never tried Hoola until the Benefit team sent me a customised pot, two weeks ago, and now I’m completely hooked. My makeup bag will constantly be stocked with this bronzer from now on!
If I’m feeling particularly cheeky I’ll dust Hoola over my face and then pat Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess creme blush into the apples of my cheeks for an extra hit of colour. It’s shimmery without being over-the-top and compliments the Yves Saint Laurent ‘Love’ Couture Palette beautifully. So far I’ve only used the palette’s lighter shades, but I might experiment with a pink smokey eye if I pluck up the courage. Although that could easily go horribly wrong!
And – in a complete contrast to summer’s warm shades – when it comes to fragrance and nails lately I’ve been favouring a fresh and simple approach. Rimmel’s 60 Second nail polish in ‘White Hot Love’ is my current go-to shade (it’s surprisingly long-lasting), and I’ve started wearing Diptyque’s Eau de Lavande scent almost every day too. Sometimes I’ll just wave the rollerball around in front of my nose – like a Diptyque druggie…
