My London Fashion Week Spring 2015 Diary

I went super low-key this season at London Fashion Week, and only attended a small handful of shows and presentations. This is mostly because, as a one-woman show, it’s impossible to get LFW coverage up before you see it on Instagram, Twitter and a million trillion other blogs. So, instead, I’ll provide more in-depth trend analysis as Spring 2015 draws closer. And, in the meantime, here’s my verdict on the collections I viewed in person…

Hunter Original

In an unexpected turn of events the show I have talked about most this season is Hunter Original. Yes, that’s right, the brand that makes your favourite wellington boots. So let me explain… Their SS15 collection was presented at a leisure centre, and they sent out swimming caps with the invitations, so I was expecting synchronised swimmers. But when we reached the show space we found a giant box sitting in the middle of the venue, which filled with virtual water as soon as the show began and then displayed colourful seaside-inspired graphics while the models circled.

The collection was inspired by World War I warships and had a practical, utilitarian feel. My favourite looks appeared towards the end of the show, where the colour palette livened up with aqua, lilac and salmon pink raingear (it looks way cooler than it sounds, trust me). Paul McCartney, Stella McCartney, Chrissie Hynde and Rita Ora sat front row.

Markus Lupfer

Eagle eyed readers will have noticed I’m a big fan of Markus Lupfer, regularly featuring his knits in the Wednesday Wish Lists. His SS15 presentation took place on Saturday morning, and it was jam-packed, as usual (I even spotted Princess Beatrice slipping in as I left). In general I tend to prefer Markus’ A/W collections, but I think they’ll be a long line forming for his flirty lurex mini dresses come March ’15. They’re super cute and I’d love to see them on someone like Elle Fanning or Hailee Steinfeld.

Sophia Webster

Sophia Webster always puts on a show for London Fashion Week (remember her Clueless-esque AW14 presentation?), and she didn’t disappoint this season, staging a seedy jungle rave in vaults underneath Waterloo station. Highlights included the flamingo stilettos, funky leopard print courts in a range of vibrant hues and a “BANANAS” speech-bubble clutch bag. And I must give a shout out to the models, who were dancing on podiums in teeny-tiny bikinis all morning – some even wearing glow-in-the-dark-teeth!

Daisy Knights

British jewellery designer Daisy Knights presented her SS15 collection in the showrooms at Somerset House, and introduced her latest concept: lace dimes. Because, really, why shouldn’t your sneakers wear jewellery too? You’ll be able to purchase the adorable charms from daisyknights.com shortly (follow @daisyknights on Twitter to stay in the loop), and they also come in a more affordable plastic style. I think Man Repeller Leandra Medine definitely needs a set!

Aspinal of London

And, of course, the Aspinal of London trend talk took place on Saturday morning. Myself and TV presenter Laura Jackson nattered away for a good 45 minutes, covering everything from Snoop Dogg to AW14 fashion. It was so lovely to meet lots of CTP readers, so thank you for coming and I hope you all enjoyed your Aspinal goodie bags! And, FYI, in the image above I’m wearing Christian Louboutin heels, a Karen Millen skirt, H&M sweater and Aspinal of London handbag.

Let me know which collections stood out for you this season at London Fashion Week…

Photos taken on the Olympus Pen E-P5 (excluding the Aspinal image). It was my first time using the camera at fashion week, and I LOVE the fact it was so easy to carry around (unlike a bulky SLR). I still need to get better at capturing models in motion though – it’s a skill that comes with lots of practise, I think. Coco’s Tea Party is a UK ambassador for Olympus.
