Embracing Everyday Gracefulness

When I was the ripe old age of five years old, I started taking ballet classes. While I was never good enough to become a professional ballerina (even though I dreamed about it), I learned a lot in my ten years of pink tights, ballerina buns, and plies. As I grew older, I had to give up ballet because of time constraints. What I missed the most about ballet was not the costumes or the steps but how graceful I felt during and after class.

Even now without the ballet shoes, I still find everyday gracefulness extremely important. Grace is an essential element to becoming a princess. Kate seems to exude grace just by breathing and ever since my Kate admiration started, I have been mesmerized by her gracefulness. She always seems to walk with perfect posture and knows exactly what to say in every situation. She is the epitome of elegance and grace and we could all take a few cues from her on how to become a bit more graceful. While this list is in no way conclusive, here are some tips that I follow to add a bit more grace to my everyday life:

  • Kate gets out of cars so exquisitely. An easy formula to follow to always look graceful getting out of a car is to open the door as wide as you can, turn your body so your feet are facing out, place both feet on the ground, duck your head, and step out!
  • Posture, posture, posture! Keep your back straight and head and chin up. My ballet teachers used to tell me that it should feel as though someone is pulling an invisible string above your head, pulling your head and back up.
  • Make eye contact with people and smile often.
  • Engage with people in conversation and be genuinely interested in what they have to say.
  • Keep a calm and positive attitude. Kate always looks calm and peaceful when she is seen in public and that draws people in.
  • Be polite to strangers with whom you come into contact. You may just brighten their day with your smile and attitude!
  • Above all else, do what makes you comfortable and be yourself. When you are comfortable in your own skin, your inner grace and elegance exudes to the outside just beautifully.

I have learned as I’ve gotten older that grace is not just a physical characteristic but an outward embodiment of poise and elegance. Everyday gracefulness comes from letting your fabulousness shine for the world to see!
