William and Kate’s first full day in Australia took them to the scenic Blue Mountains area of New South Wales, near Sydney. The mountain range is a popular tourist destinations for locals and foreigners alike.

The area was recently plagued by bushfires. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were keen to visit the area to publicize the relief efforts and rebuilding of the area. They also wanted to highlight the local culture and hobbies.

One resident of the Blue Mountains region, Jennie Hall, spoke very poignantly by saying: “To bring George to Australia like Diana did with William says a lot about this couple and the way Prince William spoke about his mother publicly, I think that was beautiful, and that has given great strength to us that he chose to do so on his first day in Australia.”

Bushfire Recovery

The first event of the day was an uplifting event in the wake of a tragedy. Six months ago, the Blue Mountains community was ravaged by bushfires. The tight knit community was greatly affected by the natural disaster.

Local emergency services and fire service personnel greeted the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the community center. Their Royal Highnesses spent time meeting with the community members and chatting with each person individually.

William and Kate met with the victims and families of the bushfires at an informal luncheon. They attended a “Sausage Sizzle” – a popular barbecue-style community and fundraising event. We must say the food looked delicious!

Kate wore a blue ikat print wrap dress by Diane von Furstenburg. She paired the outfit with her navy Stuart Weitzman Corkswoon wedges. Her jewelry was kept simple with her Cartier watch, sapphire drop earrings and Mappin & Webb necklace. Kate’s dress was IDed by the incredible Elizabeth from Kate’s Closet.
