Royal Tour Day 14: Sydney

Happy Easter, royal watchers! In Sydney, Australia, it is Easter Sunday and William and Catherine are enjoying George’s first Easter holiday. We wonder what is in his Easter basket – a stuffed bunny, and maybe some Cadbury eggs?

Today’s agenda features Easter Sunday church service at St. Andrew’s Cathedral. St. Andrew’s is the Episcopal cathedral of Sydney. Hundreds of locals got their hands on tickets to attend service with Their Royal Highnesses. After church, in the afternoon, William, Kate, and Cheeks will visit the Taronga Zoo! It should be an adorable engagement, where George will meet a bilby in an enclosure named after the wee prince.

Easter Church Service

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended Easter Church Service at St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Sydney. The Duke of Cambridge will one day be the head of the Anglican church, so his religious devotion and practices are extremely important.

William and Catherine attended the 10:30 a.m. service along with local Christians who applied for tickets to the event. The pews were packed with 800 Australians hoping to catch a glimpse and share a service with the royal couple.
At the service, William and Catherine signed the “First Fleet Bible.” The Bible was first used in 1788 and has been signed by many royals and monarchs who have previously made the trip to St. Andrew’s Cathedral.
Outside, the roads were packed with well-wishers who had come to wish Wills and Kate a happy Easter. Many brought bright, pastel bouquets and small gifts for George.
It was the first time we have seen the Duchess on Easter Sunday, much to the delight of repliKate-ers. As usual, Kate’s first outfit of the day did not disappoint.
Kate wore a bespoke light blue-grey coat and dress by Alexander McQueen. She artfully perched a bespoke Jane Taylor fascinator on her head.
The Duchess accessorized with pear drop earrings, her Mappin & Webb necklace, and her Cartier watch. Her hair was artfully pulled up in a half-up design, perfect for showing off that hat!

Taronga Zoo

On this beautiful Easter Sunday, William, Kate and George made a special visit to Sydney’s Taronga Zoo. The highly-anticipated visit was another opportunity for the world to see George/Cheeks be adorable.

When Prince George was born, on that glorious summer Monday, the world rejoiced. The Taronga Zoo commemorated the joyous event by naming their bilby enclosure after the wee prince.
A bilby is a marsupial critter that looks somewhat like a mouse/rabbit/squirrel hybrid. The bilby is native to Australia and is the country’s “Easter bunny.”
While the zoo remained open to the public, they were at capacity about an hour before the Royals arrival. The zoo had to make an announcement that it would not admit any more visitors.
Cheeks was very well behaved while in the spotlight. He met and chatted with a bilby while Mummy and Daddy cheered him on.
William, Catherine, and Cheeks officially opened the Bilby Enclosure at this event. It was Prince George’s first official opening.

Afterwards, George went to spend time with his nanny while the Duke and Duchess visited various other displays, including meeting some koalas, tree kangaroos and giraffes!
Since we can’t even begin to describe the cuteness that ensued at this event, we insist that you watch as many videos as you can.
Kate looked chic and stylish, even with a wiggle worm on her hip. She wore a yellow broderie anglaise dress, seen previously in 2012 on the Southeast Asia tour. The dress was created by an independent dressmaker.
She accessorized with her Kiki McDonough citrine drops and her Stuart Weitzman Minx wedges.
We conclude this event with a picture of Kate wiping drools off of Cheeks’ cheeks.

Arrival in Canberra

We know its somewhat hard to believe, but something else did happen yesterday after the Taronga Zoo event. William, Catherine, and George departed Sydney for Canberra, where they will remain for the rest of the tour.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George of the Cheeks boarded a Royal Australian Air Craft in the afternoon for the short flight to Canberra.
Cheeks was on full display, being cute and wiggly in a blue jumper and shorts. You can read more about his outfit here.
Kate wore a blue Stella McCartney shift dress, which we have seen a few times before. The dress matched Georgie’s jumper almost perfectly. She accessorized with blue suede Alexander McQueen shoes, a Mappin & Webb necklace, and her Cartier watch.
