Today, the Duchess of Cambridge attended the annual Order of the Garter service at Windsor Castle. The event is one of the most prestiglious on the royal calendar.

The Order of the Garter is the most senior and oldest British Order of Chivalry, founded by Edward III in the 14th century. The Order consists of the Sovereign, Royal knights and twenty four Knights of the Garter. This honor is given to those who have held public office, who have contributed in a particular way to national life or who have served the Sovereign personally.

Today’s events are an annual gathering of the Royals, the Knights of the Order of the Garter, and various special guests (such as spouses or close family members.) New knights will take their oath and be invested with the insignia, joining the ranks of some of history’s most noble men. A luncheon is hosted at Windsor Castle in the Waterloo Chamber before the procession to St. George’ Chapel.

On this day, the Knights of the Order traditionally wear blue velvet robes (with the badge of the Order – St George’s Cross within the Garter surrounded by radiating silver beams – on the left shoulder) and black velvet hats with white plumes. The Duke of Cambridge will don this uniform today, as he was recently bestowed the honor.

The Duchess of Cambridge attended today’s events as Prince William’s guest and as a member of the Royal Family. She spent most of the day with Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, and other family members who attended the event. Catherine watched the parade from under a canopy which protected her from the rain.

Kate wore a blue silk coat from Christopher Kane. The bespoke piece was first seen at the Olympic events in 2012. She paired the coat with a white hat from Lock & Co., a favorite milliner of the Duchess.

The Duchess accessorized with nude courts and LK Bennett Natalie clutch. She wore a pair of pear drop earrings that we have seen before.
