Men’s Necktie Craft Ideas

This past weekend, a local bloggy friend, Quirky Kim, shared that her husband was retiring, and he was giving away all of his neckties. He was liberating his retirement life from that corporate symbol– the necktie. She queried if any of us crafty-DIY bloggers might be interested in her husband’s ties for some DIY or craft projects. I immediately asked if I could have them, and on Monday, I acquired a nice collection of men’s neckties. While I have some pretty clear ideas on what I am going to use the neckties for, I also wanted to browse Pinterest to get a little inspiration. I am so glad that I did– there are lots, and LOTS of Necktie Craft ideas out there. I was overwhelmed by the richness of people’s creativity and ideas. I thought I’d share with my readers all of the great crafts that people are making with men’s neckties.

Now I’ve seen a lot of different Necktie bracelets floating around the web, but this one by Jen over at the Girl in the Garage is hands’ down my favorite. It’s stylish and funky and preppy, and just about perfect in every way. I love the buttons that she has chosen for accents– they really suit the design.

Maybe you don’t wear bracelets, but how about necklaces? These necklaces made from beads and men’s neckties would look amazing on any woman! I also think that for mommies like me who have infants and toddlers who love to play with the necklaces you are wearing, this tutorial by Althea who blogs at Artstar is sure to be a hit!

If you are a fan of scarfs, you can always use a few silk neckties sewn together to create a beautiful, patchworked and feminine scarf– I bet you could even make an infinity scarf if you were so inclined. Check out the Tutorial over at Craft Stylish.

The nice thing about neckties is that they have a lot of length. That can be good for making necklaces, scarves, or even belts. Here’s a great tutorial by Bespangled Jewelry on how to make a belt from a necktie.

Perhaps you are looking to make a few decorations or home accessories from upcycled neckties. Well, let me assure you, there are options out there for you! The Joallie Pettit blog would walk you through a simple tutorial to make a bouquet of flowers from silk ties and twigs!

Take a look at this next amazing wall decoration! I can sew, but I’m not an expert seamstress by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, this particular project, would probably push me a bit out of my comfort zone. Nevertheless, Jessica over at Dear Emmeline made a stunning Necktie Sunburst Clock. Don’t you want one?

What could look cuter inside your purse that a silk zipper pouch to hold pens, loose change, or make up. Even better, these darling zip pouches from Polkadot Chair are perfect gifts for the men in your life. Maybe they can hold jewelry or trinkets when he travels.

Right now Mellow Man doesn’t have a specific spot for his reading glasses, and the Little Monkey has a bad habit of snatching and stealing them. Maybe if I made him a special Eye Glass Case made out of a Neck Tie, like the one made by Olive and Love, his glasses would be safer!

Maybe your son needs a necktie for a wedding, church or special occasion? If you’ve ever looked for little boys’ ties you know that there aren’t a lot of choices out there for them. However, Kaysi over at Keeping It Simple has a quick and easy tutorial for turning a man’s necktie into a boy’s necktie!

Here’s a craft that you could use for your kiddos as soft toys, or at the base of a drafty door, or even perhaps as a fun pillow on your bed– Necktie Snakes, made by the Crafty Mummy. What’s even better about this particularly project is that you don’t need a needle and thread if you don’t want to sew, and it’s one that you can make a project to share and enjoy with your children.

When you want to look stylish when picking up your Venti Chai Latte at Starbucks this week, make a custom coffee cozy. Well there’s a necktie tutorial to make sure that you have the coolest coffee cozy around– made from a necktime. Lime and Aqua Studio shows you how to make one for yourself here

.

Now, if you have enough Neckties, you can make a skirt out of all of them! The increasing width of the ties are perfect for the lines of the skirt. You can find a tutorial on how to make them over at Rick Rack Ruby:

If you need even more necktie inspiration, I’ve created a Necktie Crafts Pinterest Board with all of these projects along with more than 25 more. I’d love for you to check it out!
