What Does Your Choice of Colour Say About You?

Have you ever through about what you wear and wondered if there was meaning behind it? Are you expressing yourself more than you realise by your choice of colour? Personally I had never really thought of it, I always assumed I picked the first thing that I laid my hands on of a morning, but sat here thinking about what I really do each day, I realise that’s not quite the truth, quite often I will pick something up look and it and pop it back, so while I don’t spend ages fine tuning my outfit, I do put a little more thought into it than even I realised.

New Look have recently put together a graphic which goes through some of the most common colours people wear and delves a little into the meanings behind the choice, as well as giving tips on how to work those colours and just who they suit (in case you fancied trying something new).

Colour and Mood by New Look

For as long as I can remember I have always dressed in darker shades, something which I am looking to change this year, as the black in the New Look list is actually Monochrome and I don’t do white (I am far to clumsy and very quickly end up with white with added colour) I decided to go for the next colour I wear blue.

I found the secret meaning of blue really interesting, apparently deeper shades convey self-assurance, which while I am far from self-confident, I do like a good debate and will stand up for my point of view (although of course if you prove me wrong I will bow down graciously).

If I was to pick a third colour from the list it would have to be red, when I am feeling confident (it does happen once in a blue moon) I reach for the brighter colours in wardrobe, which although few and far between are there. I found one thing from the secret meaning of red, stood out to me than any other and that is apparently people in red have more fun and red was definitely a colour from my childhood, which if I do say so myself was rather quite fun. Personally there is one thing I am taking for the secret meaning of red and that is; “if you’re feeling daring, try brighter reds for a flash of drama” so watch out world I am coming at you with a flash of red!
