Black Dog of Wells: Competition

I have featured this great brand on my blog before – way back last year in a Christmas gift guide and I am thrilled to be able to share them with again once more and this time allow one of you to win one of their pieces!

If you are yet to come across the Black Dog of Wells let me tell you a little about them, they are a family run company headed by Philippa Threlfall and her son Daniel Collings. Their main workshop is of course in the heart of Wells, where they also have a showroom.

The name Black Dog comes from the home Philippa and her husband Kennedy first lived in, in Wells, with records for the house going back to 1562; where it was often referred to as Blacke Dogge and was a cider house.

The Black Dog of Wells came about in the mid-eighties when Philippa and Kennedy started producing a wonderful range of decorative terracotta tiles, sadly Kennedy passed away in 2002, the same year Daniel joined the team.

I first came across The Black Dog of Wells a number of years ago, as a shop my Mum worked in sold them and I found them to have some creative designs; from things like Zodiac signs to The Green Man and blessings and prayers, in fact there is a whole host of designs and these are just a few of my favourites:

Ammonite from £16
I’ve always been fascinated by all things fossilised and I remember back in my childhood coming across my very first Ammonite and I think this terracotta tile is a very different take on this ancient creature.

Forever Together from £16
If you want to treat a loved one to a tile, then how about these entwined seahorses – they feature the words – Forever Together, with one word on each side, running up the backs of the seahorses.

A Very Fine Dog from £16
I cannot have a run down without this beauty (of which one hangs in my hall), this tile features an adaptation of the of Dr. Johnson’s quote “but he is a very fine cat indeed” (they do of course do a cat version as well).

Carpe Diem from £16
I think sometimes we all need to ‘seize the day’ a little and this tile is just the right reminder from anyone who needs a little boost, from time to time and with the sun in the middle it definitely has a rosy disposition.

All of the tiles come with between one and four fixing points and can be brought ready to hang straight onto the wall or beautifully framed for a higher price.

Of course I said at the beginning I had a tile to giveaway and what a fantastic prize The Black Dog of Wells is offering – a newish addition to their collection, is the ability to customise a tile with a name or saying of your choice and they have so kindly offered up, one of these for the winner.

So to be in with a chance of winner, we want you to pop over to The Black Dog of Wells website and check out their personalised selection then let us know:
If you are the lucky winner, which tile would you choose?
