Protect Your Stuff On Your Move

Let’s face it. Moving to a new home is probably the most exciting adventure second only to one’s wedding. But can we have all the moving of your possessions done with no worry, no hassle and no mishaps? Well, you can do some minor preparations to avoid major disasters.

Going DIY or hiring a pro, know some important tips first and before you know it, your move to your new home will be a breeze!

Plan Ahead

Coming up with a good plan of action is what a good strategist always does. Hey! Wars were won using this tip! First of all, is getting all the materials you will need for packing and make sure you have an ample supply of these:

  • Packing Material to wrap your things
  • Moving Boxes
  • Packing Tape
  • Marker Pens

Now since you’ve planned ahead, that means you have plenty of time to pack things that you won’t be using between now and the actual date of the move. These are non-essential, non-daily needs stuff that will go with you in your move. If you pack these now, you will have little to worry about as moving day approaches. By getting a lot of the basics packed, you will save yourself some extra time and effort. These may include:

  • Clothes you don’t use everyday
  • Kids’ toys and games
  • Extra linen and sheets
  • Extra furniture and lawn furniture
  • Home accessories and decorations
  • Kitchen appliances and utensils

By getting as much as you can, packed up in moving boxes before the day of the move, you can save yourself a lot of time and hassle.

Pack Correctly

Set priorities on which room to pack. Normally, one would think that the most important room, and thereby having the most essential things, should be the first to be packed. So go with the norm and systematically pack the things in the room with the heaviest items first then move on to the lighter ones. Each box should have the same pattern – heavy at the bottom and lighter ones as they get to the top. Remember not to over pack each box and to use heavy tape to seal it. And don’t forget to mark the boxes with what’s inside. A practical way is to label the box with what’s inside and from which room it came from. Something like: Picture Frames And Toys/Ally’s Room. Obviously, the main advantage of this method is to know what’s inside the box and where it should go in the new house. Practical, right?

Heavyweights first

The heaviest items in your home is most likely the furniture. It is best to pack these by covering the appendages like the legs of the sofas and the armrests of the chairs. A bed may not need to be boxed but will need to be wrapped properly so that the mattress doesn’t get dirty. Bed legs can be detached and packed or taped onto the bed itself. This secures that the stuff that go together can be unpacked together. Wrapping heavy glassware can be tricky but just make sure it doesn’t get the opportunity to get broken in transit. Heavy wrapping will do the trick.

For people living in Australia, a quick search online will reveal companies that provide all you need for the move especially the moving boxes needed for your heavy things. For sure, you will get a few hits on your search for affordable moving boxes for sale in Australia. Again, careful planning plays a major, major role.
