New Balance 574: Review

A little while back I was kindly sent a pair of New Balance 574 trainers to try out, this gorgeous black and blue pair, is actually an exclusive to JD Sports colour, which means you won’t come across to many people wearing quite the same colour trainers as yourself. They are made using a mixture of leather and textile for the upper, with a synthetic sole and textile lining.

I was actually unsurprised when I found that New Balance had begun in early 1900’s America as an arch support company, anyone who has had a pair of New Balance will know they offer a wonder arch support system – in fact it is one of the best I have come across in any type of shoe or trainer for a very long time and as someone who suffers with my feet, it really does help make a huge difference when it comes to comfort and durability.

This particular style of New Balance came to the market in around 1988 and were first of all very popular as a running shoe and in fact still are and with their comfort and support it is no wonder.

While New Balance is a US company, they actually offer UK manufacturing, with their UK factory in Cumbria opening in the 1980s, when many other companies were deciding to move their own factories abroad. Today they employ 210 people and 90% of the trainers made their, are sold in Europe.

While I can’t say where my pair were made (although I believe they weren’t made in the UK factory) it is still nice to know that New Balance support people both here in the UK as well as in the US.

Personally I think if you are looking for a new pair of trainers, then taking a closer look at the New Balance 574 is a must, they are comfortable, with good supports and so far with almost daily use they have worn well. The soles offer an OK amount of grip (though don’t go navigating ice in them) and no matter if these colours don’t quite grab your attention, New Balance offer all manner of colours from plain to more vibrant options.

Please do however note that New Balance trainers seem to run small and while I am usually a size 6 – I had to go for a size 7 in these, so if you are wanting to buy some I suggest buying up a size, or making sure you can get to a shop to give them a try.

New Balance makes trainers for men, women and children, with this beauty of a pair coming in at £65.

What do you think of my new pair of trainers?
