#62: Night Terror - Jeff Gunhus

In addition to writing supernatural thrillers for adults, Jeff Gunhus is also the author of the Middle Grade/YA series The Templar Chronicles. (www.jacktemplar.com) The first book, Jack Templar Monster Hunter, was written in an effort to get his reluctant reader eleven-year old son excited about reading. It worked and a new series was born and recognized as a 2012 Forward Reviews Book of the Year Finalist. Jeff has been a Stephen King and Dean Koontz fan since he was a kid reading their novels under the covers at night. Seeing Night Chill next to King and Koontz on the Amazon Bestseller lists has been a surreal experience. He leads an active lifestyle in Maryland with his wife Nicole and five incredible kids. In rare moments of quiet, he can be found in the back of the City Dock Cafe in Annapolis working on his next novel.

Ten years after her abduction and near-sacrifice to the Source, Sarah Tremont struggles to be a normal teenager. As much as she’s tried to suppress the power inside of her, it’s grown dangerously strong and has drawn the attention of those who want to possess her power for themselves.

The nightmare that she thought was long over starts again as powerful forces descend upon Prescott City to seek her out. With her parents and Joseph Lonetree’s help, Sarah must stand up to an evil much more powerful than the one she faced in the caves a decade earlier. But in the end, she discovers the greatest danger might come from the power living inside of her.

REVIEW: Y'know when you're watching a movie and the intense part kicks in. That's when you hear a 'dun-dun-dun' sound. That's the exact sound that went through my mind at the end of this book. This book left things wide open for another one, but I don't know if i can handle anymore of Huckley. It would have to be outrageous and unheard of to keep my interest much longer. I just feel like he has terrorized enough. Maybe if the story focused on Daniel instead of Sarah, I might be up for more. I think it just needs to switch the focus now. For me, Lonetree is the one I want to know more about and read more of. He is the star for me. Like, seriously, who wouldn't be intrigued by an ex-SEAL wanted by everyone under the sun?! That's exciting stuff! At least this story was graphic and gory, and you know I like that in a thriller. The care level was not massive though. Night Chill kept me up at night, this one didn't. It was a solid story still, and I did like it. Definitely a recommendation to thriller fans too.
