30 Things To Do Before You Have Kids

Yes, children are real joys, and I'm saying this because I mean it. And don't you doubt that for a second! But I still have these moments where I think what I could do if I wasn't in charge of a little one. They are fleeting moments but they do come to me. Hence, this list of things to do before you have kids.

But first, a caveat: if you don't have kids yet, or are expecting, don't be disheartened. Parents can choose to do whatever they put their mind to, after careful planning of course. If you're like me, you just think about what else you could be doing and give up on the idea of getting dressed and getting out of the house. If you're already a parent with young kids, I would be really happy to know if you've accomplished a few things on this list. Because you are my new hero!

30 Things To Do Before You Have Kids:

1. Wear white clothes, and pastels. Basically, any colour that hasn't been picked for the sole purpose of hiding food stains.

2. Sleep. Lots. Like, lots. Whenever you can. Wherever you can.

3. Take a long shower without any interruptions, like frantic banging on the door. Unless it's open, in which case, without an audience.

4. Read a book in two days. Not in two months, in which you have to start over again every time you pick it up.

5. Watch an entire season of Friends or your favourite classic show. Again.

6. Spend an elaborate amount of time deciding what to wear, making sure it is perfectly coordinated.

7. Travel like an adventurer. Without a care in the world.

8. Eat a seven-course meal in a fine dining restaurant.

9. Go backpacking. Seriously, you'll never be able to travel with just a backpack again.

10. Eat chocolate in the open. No hiding behind kitchen cabinets.

11. Go for a weekend trip you've planned only a hour ago.

12. Go window shopping. Just like that.

13. Try out 18 different outfits before buying one.

14. Have a proper phone conversation, with no screaming in the background.

15. Do that certificate course you've always wanted to.

16. Wear yoga pants only when doing yoga.

17. Be lovey-dovey with your other half, like, whenever.

18. Catch up with your bestie for a breakfast meet. Impromptu.

19. Party hard. All night.

20. Wear heels, and different ones for each outfit. Not the same ones that are secretly comfortable.

21. Watch TV shows in real time.

22. Go on a second (or third) honeymoon.

23. Go to the beach and just laze around all day.

24. Have a weekend which does not involve grocery shopping.

25. Cook an elaborate meal just because you feel like it. Not because there's a hungry hoard outside the kitchen door.

26. Catch a late movie show, without incessant calls from a babysitter.

27. Have carefully manicured nails, and wear make up. Every day.

28. Have a haircut more than twice a year, and in a style which isn't low maintenance.

29. Have an adult conversation that doesn't involve diapers or school.

30. Put something other than kiddie birthday parties and PTA meets on your calendar.

Tell me! What do you wish you had done before you had kids?
