Gym-Free Exercise

We girls are first in line to pay over the odds for the next miracle beauty product, but when it comes to gym memberships we often find it difficult to part with the pounds (in more ways than one!). Put your credit card away, dig out your Reebok classics and try our tips for a more cost-effective work out.

IMPROVE YOUR CORE
We’re not talking Core Sundaes here, it’s all about core muscles and if you want toned abs then this is the place to start. Try getting some of the girls to go to a Zumba class with you - we promise it’ll be fun, even if it’s only because none of you can master the moves. After a few sessions, you’ll get the hang of the technique and that’s when results really start to show. Up the ante in between classes at home by performing a ‘plank’ at least once a day and increasing the time by 10 seconds each time. Follow these instructions to get the position just right. Now, squeeeeeze.

IMPROVE YOUR FITNESS LEVELS
If you want to get fit fast you’re going to need a personal trainer, but who’s got the money for that kind of lifestyle? The real point is you need someone other than yourself to push you to your limits. We recommend trying army style bootcamps which are taking place up and down the country, mostly when we are still fast asleep or just hitting the snooze button. You will be put into groups based on fitness level and face challenges such as basic running, squats, push ups and the dreaded burpees until you have no other option than to become fitter!

IMPROVE YOUR OVERALL HEALTH
Sometimes intense exercise just isn’t manageable, especially if you are troubled with health problems. But did you know that walking or cycling for at least half-an-hour a day is associated with a reduction in cancer? Regular moderate exercise is also thought to help prevent back pain and depression. Try introducing short sessions such as a brisk walk to the shop or to a friend’s house.

Often on a rainy day, we'll stick on one of our favourite YouTube channels to have a quick workout (curtains closed, of course) - we really love
Carly Rowena for her no-nonsense approach to fitness and of course,
Blogilates if we're feeling like a hardcore workout. YouTube is a really great (and free) resource so browse through and find something that works for you.
