Gift Guide: Stocking Fillers

Do you do stockings at Christmas? As a child we didn’t, instead we had a ‘tea-time present’. All our gifts would be waiting at the end of the beds, ready for us to open first thing in the morning. There was always one extra gift each left under the tree downstairs, and these we’d save for the evening. I loved having that last gift waiting all day – it always finished the day off perfectly. The first couple of years we were married and had Lola, this is what we did. Then the year that Kiki was born, I decided to make Lola a stocking, knowing that she’d wake up much earlier than the baby, and figured that the stocking would keep her occupied until Kiki woke up and we could all get up and go downstairs to open the main gifts. Filled with little, last minute buys – a pen, a photo holder, some stickers, she was SO excited by it. She opened the six or so gifts, declared that Santa had bought her some great presents and did I think he’d come back next year! So cute! Now we have our stockings in the evening. It’s a tradition that I love, it keeps the excitement going even longer, and it’s fun to sit at the end of Christmas Day, in front of the fire an all open our stockings together.

We never have big things, or expensive things in them… sometimes it’s the funny little gifts that are the most fun. There’s always chocolate in there – this year I’m loving the stocking fillers that Hotel Chocolat have. Not only do they contain ethically sourced cocoa, but they have less sugar than other chocolate bars. This little Robin is a cutie and perfect for a stocking filler. If you’re looking for something unique, Yucoco let you design your very own bar! You can pick milk, dark or white chocolate, and then add on the five toppings of your choice {they have a HUGE selection, so this bit was very hard!}. It even comes in a personalised box – and I can confirm they taste as good as they look.

For the men folk, a bottle of festive ale is always a winner, and these star wars key covers and lego mini figures are sure to be a hit.

I love this Tumble Doll from Fritha’s shop – perfect for a baby’s stocking. My girls would love the fairy jar and Belle and Boo dress up doll too.

For us Mama’s, you can’t go wrong with a gorgeous scarf, some smellies and I’m loving this gin and tonic lipbalm too!

What would you like to find in your stocking this year?!
