Make it: DIY Lipbalm

Lipbalm is surprisingly easy to make, and makes for a great gift or stocking filler. You can customise it to suit the person who you’re giving it to, and they’ll think you super clever for making your own ;) This is my favourite recipe for handmade lipbalm. It keeps your lips soft and lovely, especially helpful at this time of year. One of the best things about making your own products, is that you can choose your own, pure ingredients.

You’ll Need:
2 tbls. olive oil
1/2 tsp. honey
3/4 tsp. beeswax
1/2 tsp. cocoa butter
Essential oil of your choice
1 vitamin E capsule

In a bowl over a saucepan, heat the oil, honey, beeswax and cocoa butter over a low heat until they are just melted. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 2-3 minutes.

Stir in the essential oil and contents of vitamin E capsule. In these I used sweet orange essential oil, as I love the uplifting scent, it reminds me of summer – which when we’re in the depths of winter can be quite a nice reminder!

Pour into a small container, and leave to set. Note – this makes quite a soft lipbalm, perfect for pots. If you wish to pour it into lipbalm tubes, or just want a harder lipbalm, add a little more beeswax {around 1tsp}. This recipe makes enough for one pot of lipbalm, just increase the quantities if you want to make more!

You could add in a little beetroot powder to make a tinted lipbalm, or how about chocolate and mint?? Just add 1/2 tsp cocoa powder and use a peppermint essential oil – just try not to lick it all off your lips!
