JOHN NORMAN’S OBSESSION WITH KMS CHART

For my October chart, I thought I’d turn the spotlight on a label that started as an indirect inspiration to me, and grew into a very direct influence, with many of my latest releases coming on the prolific label and Kevin Saunderson himself playing my tunes around the globe. Here are 10 tracks released on KMS over the years which have shaped the sound coming out of my studio today.

DaMarii Saunderson & Taylor – Diamonds (John Norman Remix)
My latest offering, and my first as a remixer for KMS. Smooth and silky but with a nice kick of dance floor goodness. I hope you like!

John Norman – 313

My first solo EP for the label, which followed up two collaboration Eps with Dantiez Saunderson. The whole package of this EP was fantastic – My Detroit synth driven original, Greg Gow’s modern techno treatment, and Antwon Faulkner’s housey treatment.

Kevin Saunderson – Rock To The Beat (Christian Smith & John Selway Remix)
I remember seeing Smith & Selway play at the short-lived Matter club in London shortly before this tune was released, and it tore that packed room to shreds. Still an absolute tune.

Antwon Faulkner – Modulation
This is a fairly recent release from Faulkner (aka Twonz) who recently relocated from Detroit to Toronto. This was a part of his brilliant High Tech Funk EP, one you should check out.

Greg Gow – Three Ways To Skin A Cat (Way 01)
This is another fairly recent release from the label, when you hear it, it is one of those tracks you wish you had written yourself, which is a great thing.

Inner City – Good Life (2011 Live Tour Remix)
There aren’t really any previews of this around, so I’d suggest you check it out on Beatport. This tune doesn’t age.

Kevin Saunderson (E-Dancer) – Pump The Move
Just such a fun tune, but serious business on the dance floor. Ultimate respect.

Kevin Saunderson – Velocity Funk (Joe Brunnings Return To The Funk Remix)
I am a huge fan of the original, and Joe Brunning’s remix adds just the right update to it.

Brandon deCarlo – Live & Learn
Again, this older one doesn’t have previews, so you just have to head on over to Beatport to check it out.

Phil Agosta – Tribute To Detroit (Agent X Motor City Remix)
Agent X puts a smashing twist on Phil’s Tribute to Detroit, the city of inspiration.
