I fell a little bit in love with Ernest Hemingway in 6th grade, when we had to read
The Old Man and the Sea
. I fell back in love with him after watching
Midnight in Paris
, but that was a whole different story and probably had way more to do with the attractive Corey Stoll playing his character than anything else. Someone asked me if I liked Hemingway and after an emphatic "Yes!" I realized I had really only experienced one novella and one movie crush, and that definitely wasn't enough to go on. I decided to give some more of his work a shot, and my book guru Adie told me to start with
The Sun Also Rises
.
I didn't hate it, but it was admittedly difficult for me to love. It's kind of like what I'm going through right now reading
The Count of Monte Cristo - I appreciate the beautify writing and the wonderful story, but I'm just not quite smart enough to read it with ease. Maybe my intelligence isn't the hindrance, but I'm definitely not familiar enough with Spanish tourist culture and lingo in the 1920s to breeze through this novel without my iPhone ready to google some terms.
