Old Faithful and the Geyser Basin

The day was dreary, kinda misty, cold. We just didn't have much luck at the end of August weather wise (or otherwise, I'll explain the ordeal further in my next post). Despite that, I enjoyed every second of walking around the boardwalks of the Geyser Basin and watching the mist fly off geyser streams as they burst into the air.

I've never been to a more beautiful but deadly place than Yellowstone. Here in the basin, that sentiment is especially true. Don't those sparkling sapphire pools look perfect for a little dip? No my friend, not if you want to keep those toes! So with a firm grip on Eve, and as good of a grip as I could manage on Luke, we took off down the boardwalk path.

The entire area was steaming, bubbling and spouting. It's both ugly and beautiful, with stinky clouds and pools and water as blue as the Caribbean sea. The most crowded area was right at the visitor centre where benches lined the decking around Old Faithful. Waiting together, watching, checking the time, looking at one another. A little puff; the crowd murmurs. A spurt of water; the crowd excitedly cheers. Then the big show. We watch in near silence. Then, as though for a live performance, a clap at the finalie. Good job Earth. Go ahead Luke, crack open that Old Faithful root beer.
