The First day of July

Sometimes my good intentions don't work out. I planned to wake up early, make grits for breakfast, and for all of us to eat together before Mitch went to work and the kids and I went to pick berries. Even though we all went to bed a little earlier, I overslept. My loving husband made coffee. We all woke up, just not at the same time.
The hydrangea bushes are covered with dead flowers, but we found one blue one at the very bottom of this bush. Up close, even the faded ones are pretty.

I think the excess rain this spring is what made some of our pears crack.
This is my frequent reminder from my iPad. Too many pictures! So I delete a few and then take more. Moving them to folders in my computer seems like it should be simple.

Joseph made a bow from a rose stem and arrow after watching Mountain Man with my parents last week. His attempts to teach me to shoot it were unsuccessful.

They aren't ripe yet, but he really wanted to try one. He said it tasted like paper.

When you give a kid the camera...

We picked about 3 gallons today. Joseph usually eats more than he picks, but after the pear he said that the blueberries tasted like paper, too.

After a quick visit with Grandmommie, we admired her flowers then the girls stayed there. Joseph and I had the morning together. We visited a few neighbors, and on the way home we watched a Great Blue Heron fly over the pond. One day I hope to take a clear picture of it. Joseph reviewed a past lesson of his Veritas Press history class. I noticed his score wasn't as high as I expected on one of his tests, so he tried again. That is one of the many features I like about the program. His score remains from the first time he took the test, but he can review it as many times as he wants. I want him to learn the material, not just memorize for a test, so this works well for him. You can read my complete review here. While he worked on his history lesson, I listened to him and cleaned the kitchen.

I planned chicken pie for dinner then cried when I couldn't find granny's recipe.
Found! Thanks to my mom :) and I'm sharing here just in case I lose it again. Mowmow renamed herself Granny when she had great grand kids.
Mowmow's Chicken Pie: 1/2 chicken deboned and cut up (2 cups) 2 cups broth 1 cup cream of chicken soup 1 stick butter or margarine 1 cup flour (she always used self rising, so I added baking powder) 1 cup buttermilk
Mix chicken, broth, and soup in oblong dish. Melt butter and mix with flour and milk. Pour over chicken. Bake at 350 for one hour.
