Bubble Birthday

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a festive holiday season.

Have you thought of stretching the use of your dies by using them as stencils or masks? Today's Bubble Birthday card does just that.

I took the Big Bubble Background (isn't it a fun name and fun design) and die cut it from masking paper which I adhered to a piece of white card stock.

I gathered up a bunch of die and pigment inks in greens and blues and used the eraser end of a pencil to stamp dots through the circles of my mask. I made sure to stamp along the edges of the mask to define the circle shapes and to layer the colours.

You don't need as many colours of ink as you think for this project because you can use second and third generation stamping from the eraser to give you lighter shades of the same colour.

As a final step, I used a white dye ink and a white pigment ink to stamp circles randomly over the coloured dots to soften the colours. How crazy fun is this background!

When the panel was finished I thought it would make a great masculine card so I used black glossy card stock to die cut the Jumbled Birthday four times and layered them together for a thick chipboard feel. With the addition of bakers twine, the card is done.

I hope this gives you some ideas on how to look at your dies differently.
