A few goals for 2014

Happy New Year!
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! We sure did! To me there is nothing more exciting than seeing our children's faces light up as they walk into the living room and see what Santa has brought for them! I know these years of believing in Santa will be winding down so I'm savoring every moment.

While gift giving and Santa are definitely part of the fun, if you ask my little girl what Christmas is really all about she will tell you "it's to celebrate Jesus' birthday!" And we did just that! I couldn't be more proud of my sweet girl.
It's funny how after all the Christmas decor is taken down and put away, our house feels sort of like a blank slate again. I like to use this time to re-evaluate each space in our home and think of ways to improve the storage and overall function. As our children grow and acquire more stuff, this becomes more of a challenge. One of my goals for 2014 is to purge purge purge and live more simply. Sometimes I say things like "if we only had a little more space," but I've realized the problem is we just need less stuff.
Speaking of goals for 2014, that's what this post is all about. I always think of things I hope to accomplish with each new year, but I never take the time to write them all down. I'm hoping that by sharing my goals I will have a little more motivation to actually achieve them!
So here are a few of my {house related} goals for 2014, in no certain order.

* Organize EVERY SINGLE CLOSET in this house! So far I have completed Audrey's closet and that's about it. I have to say that it has truly stayed that way ever since, so that is definite motivation to continue on with the others. These include our son's closet, our shared closet, a small kitchen closet, and our living room coat closet.

*Create a coffee station on the blank wall in our kitchen pictured below. I moved the cart/island out a while back because I wasn't using it the way I had thought I would. I already found the perfect furniture piece for this and can't wait to share it!

*Create an office space for me somewhere. This will most likely consist of one wall where I can squeeze in a small desk, chair, and my computer. And of course a few accessories and maybe some wall shelves. I'm not sure, but there are so many great ideas out there I just can't wait to get started.
*PURGE the entire house and keep only the things that we use regularly, or that have special meaning. This includes everything! Clothes, knick knacks, toys, home decor, books, beauty supplies, you name it.
*Clean out and organize our backyard storage building. This will be a huge undertaking, but it will be so nice when it's done! I also want to add some landscaping.

* Fence in our backyard. Hopefully. If the budget allows. It's been on my to-do list for a while now.

* Finish adding molding to our kitchen cabinets extending them all the way to the ceiling.

*Change the color scheme in our bedroom. I'm getting a little tired of the yellow.

*Finish my pantry project. Check out the before shot below.

*Create a big boy room for my little guy. We have officially made the switch to a toddler bed, so now I am itching to get started on a fun big boy room for him. His room is TINY, so this will be a challenge.

* Share many more spaces of our home with you all. I've realized that there are so many spaces I have yet to share on here, and I need to get going with that, no matter what state they may currently be in.
*Figure out what to do with our current kitchen counter tops until we can renovate the entire kitchen. Maybe one of those Rustoleum kits? I'd love to have shiny black counters! And then some days I think ours are just fine, so who knows!

*Organize our {unfinished} basement. Part of our basement is semi-finished, it's my hair salon, the other part of the basement is well, a crazy mess. We painted the walls, floors, and ceiling a while back so now it just needs to be cleaned and organized. The kid's have a play space down there, but it is in major need of some love.

I'm sure there are plenty more things to add, and things that will pop up along the way, but right now those are the ideas swimming around in my head. I'm eager to get started and I'm looking forward to what 2014 brings!
Have a BLESSED day!
