Blogger Pattern Challenge - A Fun Way to Display your Photos
When Chelsea, the blogger behind
Pinterior Designer, asked me to participate in a Blogger Pattern Challenge, I was ecstatic! I immediately knew what project I wanted to tackle! This is one of those projects that I have been wanting to do for quite some time, but never got around to it. This challenge is just what I needed to kick it in gear! So, thank you Chelsea! And thank you for inviting me to participate!
My mother in law gave me this large canvas painting a few years ago when she remodeled her house, and it sat in my basement collecting dust until just a few days ago. I knew at the time it could be something great, I just wasn't so sure what that would be.
While on a random Walmart trip I stumbled across some awesome printed burlap material, and knew immediately what I would do with it. This would be the perfect covering for my canvas.
I began by laying the burlap face down on the floor and plopping the canvas face down right on top of it. I used the canvas as my guide to cut the burlap. I left about 2 to 3 inches around the edges to allow for securing the burlap to the canvas.
Next I began securing the burlap to the canvas using a staple gun. I stapled one complete side, and then the parallel side.
Next I stapled the corners. This was pretty much trial and error folding until I got it where I thought it looked pretty good. Once I was happy with the fold, I stapled it in place.
Then I stapled the two remaining sides and ended up with this:
The next step was to secure pieces of ribbon to the canvas to allow for hanging photos, kid's drawings, notes, etc. This was easy as well. I simply stapled each end of the ribbon to the back of the canvas. I just sort of eye-balled where I wanted them to go.
As for hanging the various photos on the canvas, I chose regular clothes pins. I'm still thinking of how I want to jazz them up.
So, there you have it. A fun way to display your family photos! Or anything else you may choose!
Here is a look back at the canvas before and now.
