DIY Suspended Air Plant Planter

Hello again! For those who may not know me, I’m Jenn from Home Style Report and I contribute here at Blissfully Ever After once a month. Today I’ll be sharing my own spin on a DIY Suspended Air Plant Planter. I’ve slowing been working on our office and really wanted to come up with something I could display on our desk.

It was a little bit crazy how this project started. I was walking around Michaels, throwing anything in my basket that was a material I had wanted to work with and this is what I came up with. All of the supplies can be found at Michaels with the exception of the copper tubing, which I grabbed at Lowe’s for $5.

I decided to start with metal ring just because I used super glue (which isn’t pictured above) and wanted to give that enough time to dry. When you start off wrapping the metal ring in the leather lace you’ll want to use a little bit of super glue to secure the leather, and a clothes pin to hold the end in place while you continue wrapping the wire. I also decided to use super glue to secure the leather every couple of inches. When you get to the last bit of wire, I just used a bit more glue and secured it with the clothes pin and set that piece of the project aside while I finished the rest.

In steps four and five your making the hook at the end of the copper tubing that will hold the leather wrapped ring you just finished with. For this you’ll need to the copper tubing (duh), some pliers, and a towel. The towel is optional but I chose to use it to avoid getting the teeth marks from the pliers in the tubing. First you’ll want to flatten the tip of the tubing by wrapping the tubing in the towel and just pinching it with the pliers. To get the hook at the end, I used the towel but made sure the tubing was visible which allows you to see how much you’re bending the tubing.

Next you’ll want to bend your tubing. The main thing to keep in mind here is how big your glass planter is that you’ll be suspending. However you also want to make sure that you don’t have too much length past the bend cause the planter to hanging forward of the base. Step seven for me was cutting down the length of the copper but this may not be necessary for everyone. Step eight is drilling your hole for your copper tubing in your base. I bought a piece of tubing that match a drill bit size that we had but just keep that in mind.

The very last step is the loop that suspends the glass planter in the leather hoop. For this I cut a 3” piece of the leather lace and super glued the ends together, over lapping them by about half an inch. I also used the clothes pin to pinch this for 10 minutes or so to make sure it was secure. After everything dried you can hang the hoop and you’re done!

I hope you guys enjoyed this little project! Let me know if there is anything you would like to see me craft or hack in the future!

Happy Tuesday!
