The African Queen

As someone typically obsessed with Old World fancies, you might be surprised by how fascinated I am by the continent of Africa. Only until recently has this part of the world been on my bucket list of travel destinations. In terms of aesthetic cultural inspiration, I've typically veered towards European or Middle Eastern influences. What really intrigues me about Africa is the vast amount of open space lacking in Western civilization (or in many cases, no civilization at all.) In comparison to the majority of this world, this space remains uniquely untouched and in its natural state of habitat. The concept of traversing to a great open land and observing wildlife in its birth place is a mystifying concept to me. I probably sound like a promotional travel guide at this point...guess I've always been dealing with a hard case of wanderlust.
As of late, I've been dealing with mixed feelings concerning an upcoming move. Living in such a small town with such an intimate social circle can be interesting. Rumors fly around, you end up bumping into the wrong people at random events, drama ensues, etc. Part of me is simply amused by such antics. It's pretty interesting stepping back and watching things unfold from a laid back perspective. I used to get highly agitated when people spread rumors (true or otherwise) about me, or acted strangely if they saw me out and about. However, is it better to be talked about than not acknowledged at all? Would I rather face speculation and question from my peers or be ignored and my very existence overlooked? For me, the former is by far the most desirable choice. In all honesty, many times rumors can be great sources of entertainment for the subject of such fabled gossip. Obviously, there comes a point when people need to keep their mouths shut, and if not a proverbial sock must be shoved in said gossiping orifice.
Anyway, it's 6 am and I have yet to slumber this fine Saturday evening...well Sunday morning actually. For the purpose of tainting my blog with unsolicited and unprofessional rambling, I bid thee adieu for the night (or morning.)
Special thanks to Nikki A. Johnson and my lovely model friend Aneesa for collaborating with me on these photographs. We shot these as part of an editorial promotional project for my Etsy shop. The lovely black crochet skirt, white lace dress, and elephant necklace already made their way to loving homes, but the dramatic triangular pearl and gold earrings are still up for sale.
May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest---I know I sure need it.
