Laughing

When was the last time you had a good laugh? I mean an out of control, almost in tears, can't talk laugh.

For me, it's been a very long time. I guess being a widow is serious business but I miss those belly laughs Lane and I shared. I can remember having to leave a fancy restaurant because we couldn't contain ourselves. I have no idea what we were laughing about but we freaked the waiter and fellow diners out. I recall another incident when I laughed so hard I almost choked. Lane was telling me about an incident from high school and for no apparent reason he called his BFF and partner in crime Walter, Geronimo. I know it doesn't sound funny but at the time we thought it was hilarious.

I've heard that laughter is a good medicine for whatever ails you and I believe that. I'm sure there is a some kind of mind body explanation for it. It is definitely a way to release tension and pent up anxiety.

I also believe that part of the laughing experience is sharing it. With our husbands we here we could laugh until our sides hurt and our faces turned beet red. We didn't worry about how we looked or what anyone thought. We just shared the laugh unconditionally. Like we shared our love.

For Lane and I most of our uncontrollable laughs were over silly comments or private jokes. The stuff that husbands and wives share with only each other. As a widow that is one of the things I miss the most. Laughing. It sounds so simple, so easy, yet it's not.

What did you and your husband laugh about?
