If you're a regular reader of Mostly Homemade Mom you know I really love winter, so it takes a lot for me to say I'm READY FOR SPRING! I've had enough of the bitter cold and the dead plants and grass everywhere, I'm ready for my tree to bloom, tulips in the front yard, and fresh vegetables and herbs to use in my kitchen.
I've used the excuse for a few years that I have somewhat of a black thumb, but in reality, I've just been so busy with the boys being little that I haven't really devoted any time to gardening, let along vegetable/herb gardening. I'm REALLY excited to dive in this year. This spring I'll be using Scott's
Organic Choice soil and plant food for an herb and small vegetable garden on my back deck. I really love how it's a natural and organic based soil & plant food, I always find buying organic produce at the supermarket is too expensive in most cases.
I'll be using their Organic Potting Mix just because hopefully it will be easier for me to maintain if it's right out on my back deck. I can't forget about them dying if I can see them every day, right?! I'm hoping to grow garlic, green onion, oregano, thyme, basil, rosemary, and parsley. Any other suggestions? If you're as excited as I am to get started with an herb garden this year, I've put together some of my favorite herb-y recipes for you - this is a great list to have on hand for spring! Just as a rule of thumb, to replace fresh herbs for dried in any recipe, just triple the amount. For example, 1 tablespoon of dried basil would be 3 tablespoons of fresh basil, chopped fine of course.
