Speechy Musings Blogiversary: /r/ Book of Elicitation Techniques Review

I have a feeling this giveaway will be a hit with all of you wonderful readers. It’s for the Book of Elicitation Techniques by The Entire World of R Series and Say It Right.
This is an awesome book, and filled with information that is stuff I wish they taught you in school!

My basic overview (which is nothing compared to the info they provide on their site) is that this book provides information and tips on eliciting /r/. It’s incredibly useful to read and really just makes sense. It includes really useful pages such as probe lists, worksheets, and data sheets.
It provides information on a huge variety of techniques which I love because if one technique doesn’t work for one client, you have many more to choose from.
Let me just try and explain how much information is included in this book. The book covers: all about /r/, evaluation (screenings, probes, checklists), other products, treatment techniques (cueing, cognates, coarticulation, whisper technique, nonsense words, carry-over), elicitation techniques (for er, ar, air, ear, ire, or, prevocalic r, rl, r-blends), oral movement, data/homework, AND case studies. And that’s not even everything!!
Below are some of the sections I’ve found particularly useful:
1) Cueing: These pages provide examples of many, many types of cueing. It’s a great reminder for me to use multiple modalities for cueing including auditory, visual, and tactile cues. This book provides examples of each of these types of cues specifically for producing /r/.
2) Coarticulation: I knew how important coarticulation can be for effective and efficient therapy but I love how this book explains it, and makes it specific to /r/.
3) Carry-Over: As any good therapy book should, this book contains a section on carry-over which I found to be really useful! This section describes Controlled Randomized Practice, which I had never heard of before but it really makes a lot of sense!
Okay so those are three of the hundreds of amazing sections included in this book! If you need help with /r/, GET THIS BOOK.

It taught me so much about eliciting /r/ and will be a valuable resource to read when what I’m trying just isn’t working!!
