A Little Opulent

5 Skincare Ingredients We Love

Calla O'Malley

When it comes to skincare ingredients it can sometimes be very overwhelming trying to decipher which ingredients are best suited to your needs. With so many options on the market, and so much conflicting advice around as well, we've found that it's a very subjective topic and it usually takes some trial and error to find the best ingredients for you. We're no experts, but I thought today that I would round up 5 ingredients I personally really love so to give you a little insight into them...

AHAs

AHAs are a great option for chemical exfoliation. Usually in the form of Glycolic and Lactic acid, they work by breaking down the substance in skin that binds the skin cells together. You'll usually find them in the form of face masks, overnight treatments, toners and serums and they're a great option for regular exfoliation.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a soothing and anti-inflamatory ingredient that can treat sunburn, acne and can also be suitable for more sensitive complexions. Usually seen in ingredients lists as 'Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice', personally I've found it quite effective when it comes to my breakout prone and stressed complexion. You can either buy it as the standalone gel and use as you wish, or you can also find it in many skincare products on the market as well.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid can help prevent moisture loss and boost skins moisture content and is a great ingredient for anyone who struggles with dry or dehydrated skin. Usually found in serums, moisturisers and also in supplements, it's a great basic ingredient for so many skin types.

Salicylic Acid

A BHA, Salicylic Acid is another leave on exfoliant but this one is better suited to anyone who struggles with breakouts and congestion. Unlike AHAs, Salicylic Acid has the ability to penetrate into the pore and therefore exfoliate both inside and outside of the pore. Found in cleansers, treatments, toners, serums and masks, personally Salicylic Acid is one of my all time favourite ingredients.

Vitamin C

A potent antioxident for the skin, Vitamin C has been shown to increase collagen production, reduce the appearance of skin discolourations, reduce inflammation and more. Vitamin C comes in different forms and percentages and it's worth researching into the topic to find what might be best suited to you and your skins needs. You can usually find it in treatments and serums, and it's advised that you buy Vitamin C products in packaging that protects it from excessive light and air exposure - so steer clear of jars.
