More on the Portland Fashion & Style Awards

On Sunday, November 9th the Portland Fashion & Style Awards will host its 3rd annual event at The Portland Art Museum. There are 4 nominees in each of the 24 categories, (there's a people's choice nominee, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will win the award) and an adept group of celebrities (very Portland style) that will be carrying us through the evening. Daniel Baldwin will be hosting, which should be interesting. Seth Aaron will be presenting, along with Grimm actress Bree Turner, LA based designer Yotam Solomon, and Rocco Leo Gagliot was recently added to the line-up, too.

Seth Aaron, who decided to hang in Portland after all instead of moving to L.A., is also a nominee... in the "Best Menswear Designer" category. Am I missing something here? He has been busy designing clothing for women for both his collections; his QVC line, SA by Seth Aaron, and the black label line that was just showcased at FashioNXT. He apparently has all his collections designed through Fall 2015, so he's certainly not been slacking since his Project Runway All Stars win.

With such a seemingly disparate collection of celebrities, we asked Seth what he thinks we should expect from the evening and if it's scripted. He replied by saying, "Well in my traditional style of sophisticated conduct, (we'll be) wing(ing) it! Hopefully some fancy dressing, a bowl of loud mouth soup, cigarettes, and a few broken chairs. Not necessarily in that order." Although this sounds like a desirable evening, he may have forgotten the venue, but hey, maybe we'll get invited to an after party.

We also talked to presenter Yotam Solomon, who said he's "most excited to meet the nominees, celebrate the winners, and get to know more about the wonderful fashion professionals in Portland to create lifelong relationships."

We asked founder Anne Akre what she's most excited about for this year and what will make this year even better than years past. She says, " First I think that we are super fortunate to have a great celeb lineup as the host and our presenters. Also, this year we have been able to secure major sponsors such as Mercedes Benz of Portland and many others. It really shows how great the Portland community is and how prevalent fashion is becoming in our area! AND let’s not forget all the amazing nominees this year. We have some amazing designers, beauty industry professionals, and boutiques that are really making a name for themselves within their industries and we are excited to be able to recognize them in a huge way!"

The show is set to run from 6-8 pm (with the red carpet starting at 5:30) but with 24 categories, I wouldn't be surprised to see it go on slightly longer. Let's hope the winners keep their acceptance speeches non-Oscar in length. We just received news that the Mercury's a finalist in the Best Fashion and Style Publication category. If we happen to win, we'll just wing it too.
