Skinny Limits Juice Cleanse Review + Giveaway

It always seems like people are talking about Austin (especially their vegan tacos), so when the folks in Austin at Skinny Limits contacted me regarding a sample, I decided to read a bit more about them. What I discovered was that Skinny Limits doesn’t just offer a fine variety of juices, they provide a high quality cleanse – their juices are 100% raw, vegan, gluten free and packaged in BPA-Free bottles. And when I say their products are raw, I mean it. Skinny Limits is the real deal, they don’t use HPP – High Pressure Processing. So if that checks all your boxes, make sure to enter to win at the end of this post because Skinny Limits is giving away their 3-Day Juice Cleanse to one lucky vegan miam reader (U.S. entries only).

Skinny Limits was made by juicers for juicers. Everything we make, goes through proper tastebud inspection with the Skinny Limits crew and fans. We are fresh, raw, and gluten free. We use no pasteurization and no processing. Our juice is alive!

about

Based in Austin, Texas, Skinny Limits was founded by Cary and Joanie Frieden. Both had tried their first juice cleanse and loved it. They started as a local two person shop before expanding to a 25 member team that now provides juices nationwide. While juice cleanses are their main priority, they focus on 100% raw foods and raw cleanses. Skinny Limits uses no pasteurization and no processing. This means that Skinny Limits does not use High Pressure Processing (commonly referred to as HPP or HP Processing).

There are six different juice cleanse packages: Standard, Variety, Tropical, Master and Green Juice, and and there is also the option to create your own customized juice cleanse. Each cleanse package consists of six (16 oz. each) bottles per day and can be ordered with the duration of your choice. Cleanses begin at around $50 per day. If you have never cleansed before, Skinny Limits recommend starting with a day cleanse.

Skinny Limits can sub ingredients to make their juices allergen-free, for example, using sunflower seeds instead of cashews. Their product is raw, vegan, and gluten free. All products can be ordered organic and GMO-free as well. All of their bottles are BPA-free.

where to buy

Online at skinnylimits.com/shop. They deliver nationwide via overnight shipping. Alternatively, free local pickup is available only in Austin, Texas.

You must start your cleanse the day after you receive your juices at the latest. They will arrive cold, but should be refrigerated immediately. If you have work, Skinny Limits recommend getting them shipped there instead. All products are made a few hours before they’re shipped out and will arrive the next day at your doorstep. If at any time during the cleanse you have questions, please contact Joanie at 512-799-3380.

the verdict

Skinny Limits has Beginner, Advanced and Pro levels: 3 days, 5 days and 7 days. In early December, I chose and received the 3-Day (Beginner) Tropical Juice Cleanse from Skinny Limits. Their tropical juice package contains a higher fruit content, but I like having tropical flavors in my juices. Each bottle (16-oz.) has a specific sticker color and number, and the order is important. The juices were sufficiently packed and shipped so that they arrived without issue.

1. Pure & Simple (Green Juice)
2. Balance (Green Ginger)
3. Green Firefly (Kale Pineapple)
4. Triangle (Carrot Juice)
5. Green Firefly (Kale Pineapple)
6. Crescent Moon (Cashew Nut Milk)

notes

• Shake juices very well before opening, however the Crescent Moon (Cashew Nut Milk) should be shaken more due to the coconut oil ingredients.
• Be careful when opening, most bottles were filled to the brim/top, except for the Crescent Moon (Cashew Nut Milk).
• To open the lid, lift the orange tab, pull to the left, not to the right. If you place the lid back and shake the opened bottle, it won’t leak.

3-day cleanse recap

Day 1: I’ve tried multi-day cleanses in the past and the results are pretty similar. Starting Day 1 was slightly difficult, it wasn’t very hard to wake up and start juicing. But once you get past Juice #4, your stomach will growl and you will feel a bit of hunger, but the last bottle (Crescent Moon, or Cashew Nut Milk) is like a reward for making it through the day, satisfying your cravings for something beyond juice. I followed the enclosed manual and started each day with a cup of hot water and a lemon slice, due to the colder than usual winter weather (it was -4°ree;C that week). I also took a a hot lemon water between juices when needed. I had each subsequent juice every 2 1/2 hours, with my last one at least 2 hours before bed.

Day 2: I was on a road trip that day and had juices in a big cooler and they turned out great because the weather that day was freezing below 0. Be as productive (or at least busy) as possible to keep the hunger off your mind, it helps. Day 2 wasn’t a hard cleanse and having a cup of hot water with a lemon slice helped fight the cold weather.

Day 3: By Day 3 I was feeling pretty refreshed and I drank more water than usual. I was surrounded by food and my parents trying to feed me, but I resisted! It is easier for me to be around omnivores…because there was no temptation to eat their food! I was very excited to complete my favorite juices, #3 and #5 Green Firefly (Kale Pineapple). The ginger-based juices (#2 Balance and #4 Triangle) seemed stronger by the 3rd day. I’m not sure if that has to do with the time in the bottle or just my personal taste. It made me drink them slower than the first two days.

After the Cleanse:

My eating habits have changed a bit since my cleanse concluded. I’ve been hooked on green juices and started eating more raw food than usual. I felt refreshed when it was all finished and it put me in a good place mentally and physically for the hectic holiday season and rejuvenated me before our next international trip. I may have lost a few pounds, but this cleanse isn’t about losing weight, it’s about cleansing your body with a refreshed mind.

Juice #1: Pure & Simple (Green Juice)

Contains apple, cucumber, celery, kale, spinach, lemon and parsley.

The juice has a green sticker with #1 on it, which means first juice of the day cleanse. Slightly sweet, tart, and tasty. Very tasty and refreshing green juice.

Juice #2: Balance (Green Ginger)

Contains apple, cucumber, celery, kale, spinach, lemon, parsley, and ginger.

The juice has a blue sticker with #2 on it, which means 2nd juice of the day cleanse. Similar to Juice #1, except for the ginger that is apparent in aroma and flavor, yet not overwhelming. The juice adds a little tangy spice to tantalize the taste buds.

Juice #3: Green Firefly (Kale Pineapple)

Contains apple, cucumber, celery, kale, spinach, lemon, parsley, and pineapple.

The juice has a yellow sticker with #3 and #5 on it, which means 3rd and 5th juice of the day cleanse. Similar to Juice #1, the Green Firefly was my favorite. Very aromatic, the taste is dominated by the pineapple’s sweetness and juicy tartness. A luscious combination of pineapple and fresh greens.

Juice #4: Triangle (Carrot Juice)

Contains apple, carrot, ginger and lemon.

The juice has a red sticker with #4 on it, which means 4th juice of the day cleanse. Triangle has the same tangy flavor from Juice #2 Balance (Green Ginger) due to the inclusion of ginger. The Triangle is both sweet and tangy, with a perfect bright orange hue. This was my least favorite juice of the day.

Juice #5: Green Firefly (Kale Pineapple)

Contains apple, cucumber, celery, kale, spinach, lemon, parsley, and pineapple.

See Juice #3 comment. The Tropical Juice Cleanse contains two Green Firefly juices.

Juice #6: Crescent Moon (Cashew Nut Milk)

Contains raw cashews, vanilla bean, agave nectar, ground cinnamon, coconut oil, himalayan sea salt and filtered water.

The juice has a white sticker with #6 on it, which means the last juice of the day cleanse. The combination the himalayan sea salt and cinnamon is beautiful. Crescent Moon is a very smooth, thin and filtered drink, compared to other nut milk drinks I’ve tried. I prefer my cashew milk a bit pulpy, slightly thicker but this was still a satisfying dessert. This drink requires more shaking due to the coconut oil ingredient. This was my second favorite juice of the day.
