DIY Rope Bracelet (Style Me Pretty Living)

To say that I’m obsessed with this next DIY would be the understatement of the century. Who knew a little bit of rope and a handful of embroidery thread could be so stinkin’ adorable? Plus, they’re so easy you could whip one up for everyone you know. They make for an adorable (totally) inexpensive, gift and can be totally customized to suit color preferences. Like a friendship bracelet for adults!

Cotton rope
Embroidery thread in various colors
Neon silk cord (we found ours at Joann Fabrics)
Gold jump rings
Gold toggle clasp
Needle nose pliers
Scissors
Hot glue gun & glue sticks

Cut a piece of rope to about 12” (or long enough to go most of the way around your wrist when made into an oval shape). String on 2 gold jump rings. Hot glue the cut ends of the rope together to form a rope loop.

Press the center of the loop together to form a squeezed oval shape. The glued ends of the rope should be in the center of the pressed part and there should be one gold ring on each end of the oval.

Take a length of embroidery thread and glue one end to the rope. Begin wrapping the thread around the squeezed section of both ropes. Keep wrapping until the center 1.5” of the rope oval is covered. To change colors as you wrap, just knot in a new color thread, trim the excess thread, and keep wrapping. When you reach the other end, glue the thread to the rope.

Cut a 4” piece of silk cord and wrap it around the wrapped thread section, parallel to the rope. Hot glue in place and trim any excess cord.

Use the needle nose pliers to open the gold jump rings slightly and add the clasp pieces to the rings. Use the pliers to close the rings again. Enjoy your new bracelet!
