How To Calligraphy Envelopes + A Giveaway (Style Me Pretty Living)

Ashley Buzzy is giving us tips on how to address envelopes in the most beautiful of ways. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3, 4 and with a little practice, your snail mail will be looking just as pretty as these images by Kathryn McCrary. Draw your baselines. These lines will help keep your envelope organized, and provide consistency in a large group of similar envelopes – like for wedding invitations!

Write the basics of the address. You can write all the information in the same size, or play with making some elements larger or smaller – like the street address and zip code!

Once your address is dry, erase your guidelines. They will start to get distracting when you add flourishes.

Flourish away! Add swashes and embellishments wherever you want – it’s also visually nice if there’s some symmetry to your flourishes, or if certain loops mirror each other.

Ashley Buzzy Lettering Workshop

At the Ashley Buzzy Lettering Workshop, you’ll learn the basics of typography, calligraphy and hand-lettering. We’ll go through a full supply kit and discuss a variety of calligraphy tools and how to use them. We also cover how to mix and use gouache, white, metallic and colored inks in your projects. You’ll get plenty of supervised practice time and, at the end of the day, learn how to bring your designs into the computer for digital editing. Basic supplies for this class are provided! You will get: a sketchpad, brush markers, an oblique pen holder, assorted nibs, containers of ink, a letterpress practice guide, pencils and always a few surprise goodies!
