Easy Easter family holidays

The post Easy Easter family holidays appeared first on Holiday Extras Blog.

Hoping to get away with the family this Easter but haven’t got around to booking yet? Don’t panic! The good news is that Easter falls very late in 2014, on April 20th, so you’ve still got time to prepare. The bad news is that with places at a premium during any school holiday, packages are booking up fast, so now is the time to get cracking…

Let us help you make sorting your Easter family holidays as hassle-free as possible.

Where is warm in April? Tips for sun-seeking families

A late Easter means warmer temperatures across many parts of Europe, which opens up possibilities for sunny breaks without the need for exhausting, long-haul travel. This is great news for families with young children, who may not relish the idea of a lengthy trip with the little ones in tow.

In Andalucia, Southern Spain, for example, the mercury is already creeping up into the comfortable high teens (64-66ºF) by late April, just 2.5 hours flight from the UK. For those with older children and teenagers, Southern Spain is a particularly interesting and educational destination around Easter time as the Semana Santa celebrations take place at this time of year; cities are transformed as processions of highly decorated floats and worshippers dressed in traditional, sometimes extraordinarily elaborate costumes take to the streets.

For ‘proper’ sun and the possibility of outdoor swimming you’ll need to venture a little further afield, however, so consider a break in the Canary Islands such as Gran Canaria, Tenerife or Lanzarote, where temperatures will be tipping the early-to-mid twenties (61-73ºF) by Easter. Flight time to these destinations is around four hours from most UK airports, and many resorts are geared up for families with children.

Greek Islands such as Crete, a similar distance from the UK, are also hotting up in late April, but will still be comfortably mild enough for babies and toddlers.

Easter family holidays close to home

We wouldn’t want to try and predict what the weather will be doing here in the UK by April, but there are plenty of activities, short breaks and holiday options for families taking place closer to home.

Tour operators such as Haven, Center Parcs and Hoseasons are all offering Easter packages for families at their holiday parks, with plenty of outdoor and indoor activities included to allow for all meteorological eventualities. Many will include Easter egg hunts and other themed activities to keep children busy. You’ll find a range of accommodation options at all three, from mobile homes to cosy lodges, and many have indoor water parks with slides and flumes for hours of energetic family fun.

If you’re looking for a quieter break to get in some quality family time without too much distraction or interruption, a holiday cottage somewhere peaceful and remote might be more your thing. As with most school holiday options, prices may be a little higher at this time of year but if you’re happy to self-cater, your getaway needn’t break the bank.

Popular destinations for cottage breaks include the Lake District, the New Forest, Cornwall and North Wales, so wherever you’re based in the UK there should be a rural retreat waiting for you that can be reached in just a few hours by car.
