Say It Ain’t So!! Crumbs NYC Is Closing!!

I remember the very first time I visited Crumbs Bake Shop in Beverly Hills Ca. I was in cupcake heaven! Here were these huge, muffin size cupcakes that had names like ‘grasshopper’, and were actually decorated to resemble the color of a grasshopper and with a mound of dirt. But the best part was that it was eatable, eatable heaven of chocolate, Oreo crumbs and mini chocolate chips.

Unfortunately, today it was announced that Crumbs Bake Shop will be shutting down all 48 of its stores across the country. The New York based company has fell victim to the once cupcake craze that has fizzled out.

Per a statement from the WSJ “Regrettably Crumbs has been forced to cease operations and is immediately attending to the dislocation of its employees while it evaluates its limited remaining options,” the company said in an emailed statement. That will include filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation.

The husband and wife team of Jason and Mia Bauer started this one of a kind cupcake shop in 2003, but due to underperforming stores, this rough economy, and a steep decline in sales, it had to cease their operations. Crumbs is not the only cupcakery that has been forced to close its doors, here locally, several cupcake shops have been also been forced to close its doors.
