This DIY was very simple to make. It involves no embroidering, but just fabric letters, glue and fabric dye.
Tutorial:
Choose a light colored backpack, or a monochromatic one, and layout where you’d like to spell a name or last name, or both. Use “s.e.i tumble dye” and one watercolor brush. Dip the brush in the dye and start “painting” the bottom of one “letter,” slowly making your way up to the top, by adding water and mixing both water and dye to create an “ombre” effect.
For my backpack, I used “blueberry” and “charcoal gray” tumble dye found at darby smart online store. Paint each letter with s.e.i dye mixed with water, and then wait for the letters to dry for one hour.
One tip: I sprayed the entire back-pack, including the letters with water repellent spray. It rains a lot where I live so I have to waterproof the back-pack so it can last for the school year ;)
My daughter is very happy with her new backpack and can’t wait to start pre-k. Mom can’t wait either. Summers are super fun with all kids at home but also very exhausting ;) What do you think? Would you try this DIY for back to school? Please let me know your thoughts, I always love to hear from you!
P.S. Ikea sells this back here but they are $19.99. The price I payed must have been a special sale happening at my local ikea store.
