Best Baby Toys From Newborn to 6 Months

There are SO many baby toys out there how is one to know what is right for what age? Honestly, a lot depends on your child and what they enjoy but we’ve put together a round up of some of the best and most well liked toys from newborn to six months. The key in this stage is toys with texture, bright colors and those that encourage interaction. It is important to remember to make sure any toy at this stage it is safe for your little one to put in their mouth. Between teething and general exploration you can bet that the mouth is the fist place these toys will go! I am sure there are LOTS more, so leave a comment with your favorite toy for the little ones.

One month: There are not terribly too many toys at this stage in the game as baby’s main focus is eating, sleeping and pooping. A darling mobile like this Jungle one from Land of Nod and a sound machine or MP3 player with lullabies are your best bets.
Two months: An activity gym like the Treetop Friends from Skip Hop is fabulous as your little one starts to become more aware of their surroundings. This one is particularly great as it comes with a mini pillow that helps with tummy time which is super important at this age! There are activity gyms that light up and play music which are also great for visual and auditory stimulation.

Three months: The quiet, little newborn is turning into an interactive and curious baby. These Infantino Foot Rattles are usually a hit and Sophie the Giraffe seems to always be a hit for chewing, holding, squeaking and just gazing at.

Four months: As tactical development continues and head and body strength improve the Manhattan Toy Winkel is popular and well liked toy. It rattles and is made of soft which is great for teething babies too. The textured and brightly colored Bright Start Links are also great and babies seem to love them for teething too – parents can rest easy as they have a soft, rubbery covering. Finally post teething, these links can serve a functional purposes attaching things to a stroller, car seat, etc.

Five months: At this stage your baby may be sitting up or rolling over and the Baby Einstein Take Along Tunes is hugely popular and well reviewed by parents. Many parents claim this is “must have” toy and is great for soothing too. The Farm and Hug Owl from Pottery Barn Kids is also a great option. It has a little mirror, teething ring and rattles when squeezed not to mention the moveable wings and mini me owl provide additional entertainment.

Six months: Depending on your child’s development stage you may have already introduced something like this Baby Einstein Exersaucer. The Exersaucer not only has the physical aspect but sights and sounds that encourage learning. The Fishbowl Fill & Spill by Melissa & Doug is also a great, non electronic and super cute for a child in this stage.

Lastly, books are great from day one and merit a post all their own but we’ve included a few of Eloise’s favorites: Where the Wild Things Are, Eloise in Paris (of course!), The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Corduroy and The Night You Were Born.
So that is our round-up – what is your favorite infant toy? Leave us a comment to share with us your favorite baby toys.
