Beauty Best: Fresh Creme Ancienne

Fresh Creme Ancienne and Elixir Ancien

I’ll never forget the first time someone told me about Fresh Creme Ancienne. Hand mixed by monks in a monastery in the Czech Republic? Sounds like one tall beauty tail. Turns out, not only is it totally true, but it’s also incredibly fascinating. Turns out, the process, first developed in the 2nd century A.D., needed to be mixed by a monk, otherwise it was considered witchcraft. As a result, this seemingly mythic jar sat on my product shelves unused for months, expensive and intimidating.

Once I got the courage up to crack open the jar, it wasn’t at all what I was expecting. The texture wasn’t at all what I was expecting, somehow firm and mousse-like at the same time. A blend of waxes and oils specially blended in a specific order at precise temperatures created this texture, and as a result, the cream is absorbed into your skin at different stages. Words cannot convey how intense the level of moisture is, so it’s perfect for harsh winters or those with aging skin. It’s the kind of moisture that you can still feel on your skin the next morning, like an intense lip balm that hasn’t worn off.

Following the success of Creme Ancienne, Fresh launched Elixir Ancien, a face treatment oil. Also mixed by hand in a monastery, this blend of oils is also very moisturizing, although no as intense as the cream. That being said, this is the most hydrating oil I’ve tried (and I’ve tried a lot). Fresh also recommends using the Elixir before the Creme for an added boost.

I’m curious about the other products in the Creme Ancienne family. Can you imagine discussing your skincare with friends and casually mentioning that it was all hand mixed for you by monks in a monastery in the Czech Republic? Pretty damn impressive.
