Makeup Monday: Signs of Spring

In true Veruca Salt spirit, I want spring and I want it now! Bring me the pastel polish colors, strappy slingbacks, and iced coffees. For every winter accessory that I pile on, the more I wish that I was on a white sand beach somewhere. I’m pushing away the vampy lip colors in favor of bold pinks and tantalizing corals. I’ve started hoarding them like MAC’s Volcanic Ash Exfoliator before it became permanent. I’m going to stop this train of thought before I ramble into summer.

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer ($19): I’ve had a love/hate relationship with this concealer since it launched. I love the formula – it’s the best for covering tough blemishes because the formula won’t transfer or wear off throughout the day. I absolutely hate the packaging – it’s nearly impossibly to dispense a small amount of product. The pump inevitably pours out 3x as much concealer as you need, and making a mess in the process. All of that aside, I keep coming back to the diminutive glass bottle because the product really works. Win some, lose some.

MAC At Dusk Extra Dimension Blush ($25): At Dusk reminds me of the powder equivalent of MAC’s Nymphette lipglass, one of my all time favorites and first purchases from the brand. The Extra Dimension powder formula is a hybrid between a mineralize skin finish and a traditional powder, creating a beautiful satin finish on the skin. At Dusk is a cool pink with a subtle gold sheen that gives the skin a very ‘healthy’ that isn’t overly flushed. Buff it into the skin with a more dense, fluffy brush for an even more natural finish. Gorgeous!

Sonia Kashuk Eye on Neutral Palette – 02 ($19.99) – Finding an all matte neutral palette from a drugstore brand was such a welcome surprise. Eye On Neutral – 02 is a wonderful complement to any palette, especially the Naked collection. The second row has three warm orangey-browns that are beautiful in the crease, and the taupey-greys in the bottom are great for adding definition. I don’t often wear entirely matte eye looks, but I love to balance out shimmery shades with a matte to add dimension. If you haven’t checked this palette out in Target, I highly suggest you take a look next time you’re in the store.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Gloss in Raspberry Reflections ($5.17) – Hands down, the Color Sensational gloss formula is my favorite from the drugstore. They smell great and the texture is non-sticky, thin, yet lasting. Raspberry Reflections is a purple-based creamy pink with the slightest silver glitter that I can only see in the tube. The color is as opaque as you would expect a gloss to be, without veering into liquid lipstick territory. If Raspberry Reflections isn’t your kind of shade, check out One Shine Day, a warmer pink.

NYX Lip Liner Pencil in Dolly Pink ($3.50) – The minute I saw this liner in the display at Ricky’s, I grabbed for it like it was gold. I had never seen a color that was quite so perfectly baby pink in a liner, and if you’re a fan of those shades, you know how tricky they can be to wear. Sometimes they end up chalky, sometimes they aren’t quite full color, but almost always they are problematic. Dolly Pink helps to give those colors a bit of depth and lasting power, making it an essential for spring (at least for me).
