The Weekend Dish: 9/27/2014

Happy Weekend!

Can you believe that next week is already OCTOBER?? What?! Crazy! Today we are celebrating my mom’s birthday, the big 6-0! I actually have not seen her in nearly a month because she had shingles and both her doctor and mine cautioned us to stay away from each other, even though I’ve had the chicken pox, they said better safe than sorry. Happy Birthday, Mom!

As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week as well as some bookmarked recipes from other blogs. Enjoy!

On Brown Eyed Baker This Week

Salted Caramel Apple Cake – Three layers of moist, dense apple cake filled and frosted with a cooked caramel buttercream.

DIY: Homemade Velveeta Cheese – No more excuses when a recipe calls for processed cheese!

Morning Buns – A cross between a croissant and a cinnamon roll, I could eat these every single morning for the rest of my life.

Crispy Potato Latkes – One of my absolute favorite things about Oktoberfest menus.

Friday Things – Baby updates, a couple of fun links, kitchen scales, an app recommendation, and more.

What I Bookmarked This Week

Recipes and posts from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like, too:

Honey Peach Muffins with Oat Streusel Topping (Two Peas and Their Pod)
Summer might be officially over, but my grocery store still has some amazing-looking peaches. These muffins would be a great way to drag out summer just a little longer.

Pumpkin Sugar Cookies with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting (Cooking Classy)
Once we say goodbye to summer, I am all about saying hello to pumpkin! I just love the idea of a cinnamon cream cheese frosting paired with the cookies.

Risotto with Sausage, Brussels Sprouts and Sundried Tomatoes (Bev Cooks)
Cooler weather definitely makes me crave pasta and heartier main dishes, including risotto. The combination of sausage and Brussels sprouts is awesome; I can’t wait to try this!

Slow Cooker Italian Beef (A Spicy Perspective)
You can’t beat a good shredded beef sandwich, and this being a slow cooker recipe is a total bonus.

Snickerdoodle Banana Bars (Oh Sweet Basil)
I would have never thought to combine these two things together, yet it makes all the sense in the world. I can only imagine how utterly fantastic these are!

Have a delicious weekend!
