‘Versatile’ might not be the first word that comes to mind when you think about a double-breasted blazer. Sartorial, business, and boss are the three that jumped into my mind. However, it’s important to remember that even items that don’t immediately appear to be versatile can still be styled in a variety of different contexts. Here’s another way to get maximum versatility from a double-breasted blazer.

Get the Look

I’ve featured this piece a few times on the blog already—in the summer dressed up and casual, and earlier this spring—and because it’s made from a lighter fabric, it’s out for the spring dressing up denim.

As I’ve frequently said, it can be really easy to go overboard with menswear details. Unfortunately, there are no hard and fast rules for what works in a given context. My rule of thumb is, if it complements the look and actually adds something, rather than just being there “just because,” wear it. Sometimes what I see in my head doesn’t translate to my look. But until I’ve seen it, I can’t make the call. Every once in a while, I like to add a simple lapel pin to my blazers—usually double-breasted ones. It can be the perfect finishing touch.

This Look: Double-breasted blazer c/o Reiss (old, similar here) – Shirt by Brooks Brothers – Jeans by A.P.C. (New Standard) – Tie by Gitman Bros. (similar here) – Pocket square by Drake’s (sold out, similar here) – Sunglasses c/o Persol – Briefcase c/o Maxwell Scott (similar here) – Watch by Timex – Vintage lapel pin (similar here) – Shoes c/o Allen Edmonds (Parkway)
