If one thing is clear, it’s that autumn is here on the east coast. Time for heavier fabrics, sweaters, layering, leather dress boots, and all the other seasonal menswear-related things that make it my absolute favorite season. I spent this past weekend with friends in New York City celebrating my birthday and enjoying the first taste of fall air. I also had the opportunity to stop by Ted Baker to check out some of their new fall selection. Here, I’ve styled three of my favorites – all perfect for stepping up your fall style.

Looking through my closet recently, I thought, “Man, how many white shirts does a guy need?” You could say the same for navy blazers. But it’s important to have staple pieces in seasonal fabrics. This wool-blend navy blazer is pretty much the perfect weight for fall and can easily pull double duty as a blazer for the office or as a go-to piece of outwear on a chilly morning.

A waistcoat is a perfect extra layer for fall. Think of it as a dapper alternative to a cardigan. I talk exhaustively about increasing the versatility of any suit you buy by adding a waistcoat, but don’t forget that an ‘odd waistcoat’ can be very interesting. I’ve always been impressed with Ted Baker’s selection – I even pinned one on my #pinpoinTED board last month. Other than going custom, it’s hard to find OTR pieces with this kind of detailing.

Change up your regular cotton chinos with a pair of brushed cotton. These are softer, warmer, and a great color for fall.
