We Ran SF! Nike Women's Marathon San Francisco 10th Anniversary

When I started this blog earlier this year, running the Nike Women's Half Marathon through the beautiful city of San Francisco was just a fleeting dream. (Read my very first post We Run SF... Hopefully) It turned into a possibility when I registered & became my biggest goal for this year when I landed a spot in the Nike lottery! 16 weeks of training later, it became a reality this past weekend when 30,000 runners took flight in Union Square.
I can say that the experience was nothing short of exhilarating! I was anxious & amped up until the starting gun shot off, & from that point on, my body & my training took over & I was just there to enjoy the ride.
I tried to chronicle my training every week, but dropped off halfway (sorry! but you didn't miss it, right?) just because there were so many obstacles holding me back that I couldn't really keep up on training the way I wanted to. I injured my ankle about a month before & had to rely on cross training to keep my fitness level afloat. Then I got sick about 2 weeks before & had to stop training altogether. I maxed out at only 10 miles during my training, but it definitely pulled me through to the finish line with an even better time than I was expecting! I was shooting to finish between 2:30 and 3:00 hours, & I ended up finishing at 2:25! Woop! I ran the whole way & even smashed up all the hills. I felt the pain in my muscles around mile 10, & felt it in my bones at mile 12! But when I saw the finish line, I'm not sure what happened but I dug deep & just sprinted!

I want to give a special shoutout to my fellow blogger, ROWDY, who gave me some advice early on in my training. He said "it's just pain after all", and that was what really pulled me through when I was dying of thirst & when my muscles were on fire! You were right! It was painful, but the body is an incredible machine. So thank you Rowdy!!
Here's some photos of the Nike Expotique, Niketown in Union Square, & race day!
