The Reading List

One of my New Year’s resolutions was to read more (same resolution every.single.year) and for once I actually stuck to it! I’ve really been enjoying reading in my spare time, before bed or on the tube. I think it’s important to PUT THE PHONE DOWN (which is very difficult for me) and lose yourself in a book. In today’s post I’m going to do a quick review of books I’ve already mentioned in a
video before as a few on my reading list!

We Were Liars- E. Lockhart
This book was given to me by my good friend Sanne who has an amazing book related YouTube channel by the way! She told me that she read this entire book in one day and couldn’t put the thing down, which was exactly the kind of thing I needed to get me back into the swing of reading. Like Sanne, this book hooked me right from the beginning and I would recommend it to ANYONE. The novel is narrated by 15 year old Cadence Sinclaire who is the eldest grandaughter of a very rich family. I don’t want to give anything away, but it’s full of mystery, tragedy and romance. Each summer the family comes together at their private island which isn’t as perfect as it may seem!

The Bedwetter- Sarah Silverman
This is the next book on my to-read list, but I’m really looking forward to it because I think Sarah Silverman is absolutely hilarious. She’s controversial, witty and takes a very head-on approach to comedy which I admire! From what I’ve read this book discusses her heartbreaking childhood to ultimately becoming the successful comedian she is today.

Bridget Jones’s Diary- Helen Fielding
I read this book when I was definitely too young to understand most of the jokes and now that I’ve been living in England for awhile I feel like I appreciated the British humour a lot more. My friend Marion gave this book to me with the best cover ever (watch this video here where I talk more about it) and it was such a great distraction! If you’re a fan of the movie (Mom, I’m lookin’ at you) I think you’d adore the book as well. I rarely re-read books, but this one was an exception.

The Beginning of Everything- Robin Schneider
I heard of this book through my friend Ingrid (see her beauty channel here) who was raving and raving about this book in one of her videos. The author Robin is also a YouTuber (see her channel here) which makes me feel an instant connection, so I decided to order myself a copy. The book is about a popular boy named Ezra who is tragically in an accident which causes him to potentially lose everything he had worked for. He ends up drifting away from his popular friends to the ‘misfit’ table where he learns a lot more about himself than he ever thought he could. It’s a witty book with some heart-wrenching moments and made me think back to all of my high school moments!

Stoner- John Williams
Stoner is an extraordinary book about an ordinary man living an ordinary life. I started reading this (until I got sidetracked so I have to finish it soon!) because Aslan really loved it. The book was actually written in 1965, but was re-issued in 2003 and got quite a bit of buzz. I’m sure I’ll love it!

Have you read any of these books? What are some of your favourites that I haven’t mentioned?
