travel tuesday – colorado

I love seeing people’s travel photos and am slowly going through some of my old photos to share. Between 2002 and 2005, I traveled to over 12 countries in Europe but have the crappiest photos ever because I have a regular film camera. And was a horrible photographer. So I need to go through those, but in the mean time, I have these photos from 2006 when I visited my sister when she lived in Colorado. We visited the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park near Colorado Springs.

I have a weird fear of heights only when you can see through the floor, so basically things like walking over sidewalk grates or walking on wood where you can see through the spaces between the wood slats. So it’s weird that I really wanted to go to the Royal Gorge Bridge, which is the world’s highest suspension bridge. I’m a weirdo.

So we took a shuttle/trolley thing across the bridge. Then there are some attractions on the other side, including a little zoo. Then there is an incline that takes you down to the bottom of the gorge. I can’t remember what side that was on since it was 8 years ago (ouch). But then at some point we had to walk back across and I was petrified. Or maybe I was just horrified by my sunglasses/outfit.

I was sooo scared to walk across it. Especially when the shuttle thing would drive by because it would make the whole bridge shake. So scary. But it was a cool thing to see. The last photo was taken from the bottom of the gorge. It’s crazy that something like that is stable. I went to the website and it said there was a fire last year that destroyed some of the attractions but it looks like restoration is nearly done. If you’re ever in that area, check it out. The views are amazing! Anyone else ever been here?
