being sick sucks

I had big plans to be super productive over the weekend. But my body had other ideas. Rude. Since I was a teenager, I have randomly gotten horrible stomach pains every once in awhile. The pain feels like a sharp burning pain, almost like the pain is in my abs rather than a digestive thing. I talked to my family doctor about it a few times with no resolution or diagnosis. It only happened a few times a year though so I didn’t push the issue. But when it does happen, it suuuuucks. The pain makes it impossible to eat much and I can barely move. Usually my whole body will ache, I get nauseated and have thrown up a few times. Not fun.

A few years ago I finally went to a gastroenterologist and was diagnosed with a type of IBS which is basically pain and spasms. He gave me two different medicines and, if I take a pill when my symptoms start, I’m usually totally fine. It has worked well over the last few years until this weekend. I slept badly on Friday night and alternated between being freezing cold/sweating hot. I thought I might be getting a cold and felt a little off on Saturday morning but didn’t think too much of it. I had a light breakfast and figured I could go do my errands after resting for a bit.

Nope.

I ended up having to lay in bed all day. I shuffled around the house in my underwear and sipped on ginger ale all day. I alternated between reading my kindle, catching up on my dvr’ed shows (holla Project Runway and SYTYCD – not surprised at all about that result – anyone else watch it? We need to chat. Anyways.) and watching all the hgtv in the world. Oh and severe house stalking on Zillow. I like to look at houses I can actually afford and then also houses that are waaay out of my budget. It was the perfect sick day activity.

So being sick totally sucks but maybe I needed the time to just do nothing and relax? And maybe since I was sick 3 weeks before our wedding, that means I WON’T be sick on my actual wedding day? I don’t know. And I just realized this post doesn’t really have a point. But I know the pugs sure loved having me in bed all day since it meant that they could lay in bed with me all day. Maybe that’s the point of this post – being sick sucks but having useless pug nurses drape themselves all over you isn’t so bad.

How was your weekend? Hopefully no one else was dealing with the sickies!
