autumn inspiration from tulipina.

Today, the lovely Kiana from Tulipina floral design is creating a little autumn inspiration for you, and it’s just stunning.

Autumn has to be one of my most favorite times of the year. I find so much inspiration around me — from a simple walk with my dog to a visit to the San Francisco Flower Mart – everywhere is full of beauty and inspiration for my designs. This lovely nook under a window at Victoria’s San Francisco home gave me the inspiration to create a moody, autumn scene complete with hanging florals. While the cottage is small on space, each area yields something special, and it is hard not to fall in love with all of it. This sweet nook is the perfect space for pretty much anything, from Victoria’s awesome vintage clothes, to her bench and my floral design.

Flowers and foliage: garden and spray rose, ranunculus, peony, tulip, carnation, nodding abutilon rose hip, acorn, pumpkin, pomegranate.

I am a fan of using many different elements in my designs — typically what I can find in my garden mixed with what is available at the flower mart. There happened to be peonies at the mart that day, so I knew I wanted to use them. And the carnations, with their perfect ruffles and their colors just scream autumn. For those who still don’t believe that carnations are amazing, and only for cheap bud vases at the local restaurant or for adorning the funeral parlor, I challenge you to examine the varieties available at your local mart. They are simply lovely. The abutilon and eucalyptus were some lovely additions from my garden/yard.

We shot with both film and digital to capture slightly different moods. The film pictures have a smoky, slightly darker tone that I really love. The digital came out a bit brighter and more saturated. Both together paint a complete picture of the lovely scene that we were able to create.
