HOW TO GO TO HAKONE VIA ODAKYU LINE

Hakone is one of the most suggested places to go to for autumn. And of course, it didn't disappoint. I went there with Kathryn for the fall foliage. If you're looking for a place to go outside of Tokyo for a day, you should consider Hakone as it is only 85 minutes away from the city via Odakyu Limited Express Romance Car.

Hakone Freepass via Odakyu Line is highly recommended aside from your usual train fair from Shinjuku to Hakone, it allows you to hop on and off freely to any of the following transport facilities: Hakone Tozan Train, Tozan Cable Car, Ropeway, Sightseeing Cruise, Tozan Bus, Odakyu Hakone Highway Bus, Numazu Tozan Tokai Bus and Tozan Bus for only ¥5140 (two days) and ¥5640 (three days). It's valid for two-three days. But the catch is, you can only use only one round-trip between your departure station and Odawara Station is allowed on the Odakyu Line. Meaning, you have to stay in Hakone or Odawara overnight if you want to maximize the freepass for two or three days.
But even if you're only visiting for a day, getting the freepass is still worth it, as I computed the expenses I could have paid if I didn't avail it. You can also get further discounts to museums such as Little Prince Museum (I'm dying to go!), Open Air Museum, Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Natural History among many others. And even onsens (hotsprings and spas) like Kappa-Tengoku, Yunosato Okada, Tensan Tohji-kyo and many more.
Other special notes: You have to add a limited express surcharge to ride the Odakyu Limited Express Romance Car. It's only 85 minutes from Shinjuku to Hakone-Yumoto station. Hakone Freepass is available at any Odakyu Station.
