The Shadow Queen is told through a fascinating perspective -- that of the personal attendant and closest confidante of Louis XIV's all-powerful mistress. The story straddles two worlds -- the competitive arena of 17th century French theater and the opulent yet treacherous court of the Sun King. (Goodreads)

I am not kidding when I say that I have been waiting FIVE years for this book to come out. I read the
Josephine B. trilogy in high school and then waited a few years for
Mistress of the Sun to be released (which wasn't published until almost 10 years after the Josephine trilogy). I'm pretty sure I bought it within days of being published and read it that day it was so good. Now, I've been not so patiently waiting for this novel that finally has a name and a cover. I am beyond excited to read
The Shadow Queen and will push everyone to
pre-order this book now. Also, read her other novels if you haven't already. Gulland is one of the finest historical fiction writers out there. You will not be disappointed if you pick up her books.
So is anyone else freaking out over The Shadow Queen? Is April just too far away or like me have you been waiting FIVE YEARS for this book to be released?
