creating a capsule wardrobe (aka a long-overdue spending ban update)

according to the pareto principle, we use 20% of what we have 80% of the time. i’m so guilty of huffing about having “nothing” to wear, even though my wardrobe is heaving & i’m tired of wearing the same old things the same old way. so i made a decision & early this year blogged about my attempt to stop mindlessly spending & my goal of obtaining the ‘capsule wardrobe’ we hear so much about.

well, my spring shopping ban was successful (yes i surprised myself) & i’ve continued to slowly rid myself of clutter. i’ve always seen autumn, like spring, as a great time for a life re-jig so i recently emptied my whole wardrobe (rediscovering a heap of forgotten buys), tried everything on & tidied the keepers away again. the rest went on ebay & i used some of the funds to treat myself to ‘proper’ hangers.

i’m still watching my spending too. i do 98% of my shopping online & am now careful to only keep what i love. i buy fewer, better-quality items &, rather than just deciding whether i like something or not, i think about whether it can be worn with things i already own; if not, back it goes. i can’t decide whether this is a result of getting older or growing-up during a recession. have your shopping habits evolved?
